A few years ago, actually, more like 10, I played soccer and the one year I had a coach that was an inventor. The one day, he was over at my house, for whatever reason, and we were discussing perpetual motion and centrifugal force. (perpetual meaning forever, centrifugal meaning --think of a merry go round, gyroscope, etc.)

Currently, I'm watching A Beautiful Mind. It got me thinking and going along the lines of physics, philosophy, etc. I started thinking about Perpetual motion, but then for some reason blew the scale way out of proportion. Scientists are always looking at trying to create perpetual motion, or some system that does so.

The main things for Perpetual Motion are: (according to an inventors description)
-Continuously moving, never stopping. (By the rules of scientists today, a system has to last longer than a year, on its own power, to achieve this goal.)
-Creates more energy than it uses (uses its own power to power itself and has a surplus of energy afterwards)

Well, what about the earth and human kind? Human kind started off from a few hundred thousand -or some number around there-, and today we have over 5 billion people on this planet. Now, recorded civilization started somewhere around 6000 to 3500 B.C. Currently, we're in the year 2008 A.D. Taking into account, these two facts, do you think the human race has achieved Perpetual Motion? Not as an individual, not as a single machine, but the human race as a whole.
